About Lydia
Teacher -Â Homeschooler - Lifelong Learner
After several years of teaching elementary students and coaching various sports in the public schools, Lydia began homeschooling her own three children. They had an absolute blast, and as the children grew more independent, she began seeking out other opportunities to share her knowledge and skills with the community. She offers a wide variety of classes for all ages, and currently contracts with Homeschool Enrichment Centers in El Cajon, CA.
Course Overview
English / Language Arts
Lydia's favorite subject! She offers courses for all reading levels in comprehension, various writing styles (creative, expository, persuasive, etc.), spelling/grammar, diagramming sentences, novel studies, public speaking, and study skills for K-12. An avid reader, she loves organizing book clubs and thematic units, and excels at weaving in writing practice with ANY subject!
Enrichment
With many different interests and a desire to keep learning, Lydia enjoys designing short courses and clinics with a specific focus. Some examples include classes about historical figures or events, holidays, Greek & Latin roots, easy experiments with everyday items, sociological concepts, game schooling, Introductory Spanish and ASL, YouTube challenges, cooking/baking, gardening, baseball/softball, homeschooling seminars, and more! She also enjoys a challenge, and happily creates classes by request.
Math / Science

Math and science are more enjoyable when you "go big or go home," and Lydia doesn't shy away from a good mess. Giant 3D models of the water cycle, candy chemistry, fluorescent tactile bags, live animal studies, and so much more! She firmly believes most math concepts can be taught with some pizza, pie, cookies, and chocolate bars, and she is especially skilled in designing math bootcamps that focus on particular concepts. Examples include Fractions/Decimals/Percents, Perimeter/Area/Volume, PEMDAS & GEMS, No Problem with Word Problems, and Math Artist.
